Translational Immunology in Environmental Medicine
Our research goal is to better understand human-environment interactions and to develop optimal diagnostics and therapeutic strategies for the individual patient.
All individuals are constantly exposed to a plethora of environmental factors such as pathogens, allergens and toxins. Depending on genetic predisposition each individual reacts to these environmental factors with their unique innate and adaptive immune response.
The occurrence of any signs of disease depends on different factors, which include the intensity and amount of environmental triggers and also the individual resilience at a specific time-point.
Next to patient care, our main mission is the investigation of immunologic processes in the context of human-environment interactions and to elucidate environmental diseases.
On the following pages you will find details concerning our research focus, appointments for patients, teaching and career possibilities.
Our research focus Translational Immunology aims at connecting basic immunologic research with improving health care. For us this means taking specific immunologic research questions from clinics into the laboratory to investigate possible solutions and to take our insights back to patient care.
Within our network of national and international collaboration partners we intend to transfer our research findings to common diseases such as COPD, asthma and atopic dermatitis to significantly improve quality of life of as many people with chronic diseases as possible.
